Choose Compact M, not just any M

The official Compact Bag M specification lists polyester, approximately 15 litres and a maximum load of 5 kg. It gives an example open size of 35 × 30 cm and a folded size of 6 × 8 cm, noting that the loaded shape varies. The S515G listing adds a packed depth of 6 cm. Drop M, recycled collections and other Shupatto families have their own specifications. Match complete names before comparing dimensions.

The folding step is the point

Shupatto's instructions show pulling the tapes at both ends so the pleats gather, then rolling the bag into its closed bundle. Our inference is that this suits someone who dislikes returning a spare bag to a separate pouch. It still needs folding after unpacking. Think about where that bundle would live: a handbag pocket, the bottom of a backpack or a drawer beside your keys. Give it a permanent place.

Compare the load, not just the volume

Fifteen litres describes space; five kilograms describes the published carrying limit. Bottles and tins can make a bag heavy well before it appears full. Plan your usual basket. For a few irregularly shaped purchases, the changing shape may be convenient. For folders, magazines or a sleeved laptop, a flat tote may simplify organisation. Do not judge either format from an unusually tidy product photograph.

Japanese brand, documented manufacturing origin

Shupatto belongs to Japanese company Marna. The official S515G Compact M page explicitly gives China as the country of origin. Describe it as a Japanese brand and design, with that listed model made in China. A Japanese name or motif is not a manufacturing statement. The published material is polyester; do not transfer recycled-content claims from a different collection. We have not established a comparative environmental footprint, so ease of reuse is the practical reason for choosing it here.

Care and buying in France

Marna instructs users to wash this model separately on a gentle cycle inside a laundry net, reshape its pleats and dry it flat in ventilated shade. It rules out a dryer and iron. MARK’STYLE TOKYO in Paris offers the Compact M in Sumi and green; its product pages showed availability on 12 September 2026. Both list 15 litres and a 5 kg maximum load. The purchase links below lead to those exact options. Confirm the current stock and care label for your chosen colour before ordering.

Watch it fold

A MOMENT BEFORE CHECKOUT

Worth a closer look

  • Confirm Compact Bag M and the selected product reference.
  • Check your normal shopping load against the stated 5 kg limit.
  • Allow room for a roughly 6 × 8 × 6 cm packed bundle.
  • Read the material, manufacturing origin and care label for that variant.

Skip it for heavy bulk shopping, rigid organisation or a bag expected to protect electronics from rain. Choose an appropriate load capacity, structure or protective case for those separate needs.
